Mak empowers organisations through educational leadership and communication skills. As a creative communications specialist, he has rich experience in marketing communications. He is an international leader in communications, computer graphics, English Language Teaching, and real estate journalism.
As a Master of English Studies academician, he lectures for Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), Mass Communications, Psychology, Early Childhood Education (ECE), Nursing & Education programmes in higher educational institutions. He teaches various subjects, such as Educational Technology, Public Speaking, English (Academic, Advanced, & Intensive), Theatre & Drama, Cross-Cultural Translation, & Print Media. At high-school level, he teaches English, Social Sciences, Public Speaking, & General Paper. He is also an International English Language Testing System (IELTS), Malaysian University English Test (MUET) and Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) trainer.
He demonstrated his academic expertise as an administrative editor, presenter, and reviewer. He was the Administrative Editor of Journals 2022/23 for The English Teacher journal. He was a presenter for Open University Malaysia’s (OUM) CESS Colloquium 2019 and Lincoln University College’s 2nd International Conference on Global Education. He was also a reviewer of the International Journal of Emerging Issues in Social Science, Arts and Humanities (IJEISSAH).
He has taken leadership roles and made academic contributions in various ways. In Star Media Group, he was Head of Content and Consumer Engagement for StarProperty, and Chief Judge in the StarProperty.my Awards 2016. He was also a finalist in the National Business Journalism Competition 2014. In tertiary educational institutions, he developed policies and systems, as well as has handled administrative and marketing communication tasks. He is also an Industrial Advisor for Master of Communications, Lincoln University College. As a Toastmaster, he has received several awards, including Innovative Planning Proficient, Advanced Communicator Bronze, Competent Leader, and Triple Crown Award for 2021/2022, 2023/2024, and 2024/2025. As Exhibition Vice-Chair, he is a member of the Association of Computing Machinery’s SIGGRAPH ASIA 2008 organising team that won the ‘Singapore Experience Awards 2009 – Association Conference of the Year’ award from the Singapore Tourism Board. In educational technology, he is a Microsoft Advanced Educator and Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert 2024-2025.
Mak holds association memberships in various fields for personal development. He is a life member of the Malaysian English Language Teaching Association. In communications, he is District 102 Area C3 Director 24/25 of Toastmasters International and life member of the Singapore Press Club. In business, he is a national council member, and chair of the academy and training development bureau of SME Association of Malaysia. In tech, he is a committee member of the E-Commerce Chapter of the National ICT Association of Malaysia (PIKOM).
